Dr. Steven B. Sheldon

Director of Research

Steven B. Sheldon, Ph.D. in educational psychology from Michigan State University, is a Research Scientist with the Center on School, Family, and Community Partnerships and Director of Research with NNPS at Johns Hopkins University.  His work explores key components for the development of strong partnership programs in schools, as well as how the quality and outreach of these programs affect parents’ responses and student outcomes such as attendance, behavior, reading and math achievement.  He developed and tested parent and student surveys on partnerships with highly diverse populations.  He is co-author, with Mavis Sanders, of the book Principals Matter: A Guide to School, Family, and Community Partnerships (Corwin Press, 2009) that focuses on principals’ leadership for developing effective partnership programs. He is also co-author of School, Family, and Community Partnerships: Your Handbook for Action (Epstein, et al., Corwin Press, 2009).  In his recent work, he studied the direct and indirect effects of family involvement at school and at home on student motivation and school achievement.  (Click here for selected publications by Dr. Sheldon Selected Articles and Book Chapters by Dr. Steven B.
