The school robotics team, the Surgeons of Steel, cut, welded, assembled, and programmed its own unique robots for participation in the annual FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) competition. In cooperation with corporate and community sponsors, the team designed and built Chaos, a robot that won the 2003 Buckeye Regional Championship and now serves as the prototype for all Cleveland TechWorks teams. Science FairMurray Junior High School Saint Paul, Minnesota Murray Junior High School began its Science Fair to cultivate interest in science and teach the scientific method and investigative skills through a hands-on approach. After observing science fairs at several elementary schools, staff felt that this practice could be successfully implemented at the junior high school level. This practice started in 1985 with 25 students competing at the local level and has come to be the largest single-day science fair in the state of Minnesota. More... Students ran tests, collected data, asked questions, and formed conclusions to discover “Who Borrowed Mr. Bear?” or to solve “The Case of the Missing Millionaire.” Teams of students and their parents used critical thinking, lab skills, and science knowledge in an interactive and fun way to solve the mysteries.
