Baer School’s Partnership BoardWilliam S. Baer School Baltimore, Maryland The William S. Baer School serves students with disabilities from ages three to 21, and students without disabilities from age three to five. Therapists have been working for years with Baer students on self-help and toileting skills. However, the handicapped toilets and sinks were fashioned for adults with disabilities, and had not been renovated since the early 1980’s. Children were unable to use the facilities independently. Baer School’s Partnership Board set out to renovate the facilities so that all students could reach the school goal of preparing for independent living. More... Building Bridges to Reduce BullyingHighland Goffes Falls School Manchester, New Hampshire The Building Bridges committee organized a monthly double header event— a night with two concurrent workshops, one for students and one for parents. Four teachers, six parents, and the principal comprised the Building Bridges Committee, whose goal was to bridge the gap between school and home. Community and Family Partnerships in Health EducationRocky Mountain Center for Health Promotion and Education Lakewood, Colorado Family and community involvement is an important component of comprehensive health education in schools. However, this component is often difficult for schools and community members to understand and implement. The Rocky Mountain Center for Health Promotion and Education (RMC) conducts trainings to help schools and families understand the benefits of partnerships and learn specific steps and examples to build partnerships in health education and tobacco prevention. Safety FirstWoods Cross Elementary School Woods Cross, Utah Traffic patterns near and around Woods Cross Elementary School created unsafe conditions for students and drivers. The principal and the Action Team for Partnerships (ATP) met with the PTA Safety Committee to identify the problems and seek solutions. Walk For FreedomFreedom Elementary School Freedom, Wisconsin The physical education teacher at Freedom Elementary School engaged students, staff, and parents in a “Walk for Freedom.” Students set out to walk or run the 8,137 mile trek that would lead them from Freedom, Wisconsin through 10 other cities in the United States also named Freedom and then back to Wisconsin.
