At Whitwell Elementary School, we increased parent attendance at workshops when we coordinated these workshops with other activities in our school. The December workshop "A Night for the Arts" was held on the evening that the children were scheduled to practice for the Christmas play. When the parents brought the students to practice, the children talked their parents into staying for the workshop. More...

First Thursdays at the Baltimore Museum of Art

Lockerman-Bundy Elementary School
Baltimore,  Maryland

Partnerships are alive and well at Lockerman-Bundy, thanks in part to the hard work of the Action Team. One of the most exciting events this year was our participation in First Thursdays at the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA). We began on Thursday, December 2 with a hotdog dinner for the students and their families-247 participants. We boarded buses provided by BMA and arrived in time for a comedy skit performed by the Educational Department at the museum. This additional attraction was presented just for our school and provided a motivating beginning for our visit. More...

Study Skills Manual

Naples Elementary School
,  Naples

In September 1999, through the Mentor Program referral assessment, Naples Elementary School identified study skills as a major need for students throughout all grade levels. Discussions of how to address this need were held at grade level meetings and feedback was shared at our School Home Partnership Committee meetings. We decided to develop a Study Skills Manual, pre-k through grade 6, to be distributed to each family during registration in April 2000. More...
