Nettie
Legters, Ph.D. Nettie Legters, Ph.D. is Research Scientist at the
Johns Hopkins University Center for Social Organization of Schools and
Associate Director of the Center’s Talent Development High Schools
(TDHS) program. Her primary research areas include high school restructuring,
teachers' work, and equity in urban education.
Dr. Legters is committed to translating research into policy and practice
and has worked actively in urban high schools to support major restructuring
efforts. She has served as a key developer and organizational facilitator
in TDHS replication sites and has co-written the Talent Development Planning
Guide and a Guide for Creating a Ninth Grade Success Academy. She also
has published articles and reports aimed at improving urban schools for
teachers and students, including Small Learning Communities Meet School-To-Work:
Whole School Restructuring for Urban Comprehensive High Schools. Her
book, Comprehensive Reform for Urban High Schools: A Talent Development
Approach (2002) is available through Teachers College Press.
