Frances L. Van Voorhis, Ph.D. in developmental psychology from the University of Florida, is a consultant with the Center on School, Family, and Community Partnerships at Johns Hopkins University on research on improving the homework process and on the development and effects of the Teachers Involve Parents in Schoolwork (TIPS) Interactive Homework Process.  Dr. Van Voorhis is the author of many research publications and practical materials on homework and its effects.  She completed three longitudinal studies of TIPS Math in the elementary grades, and TIPS Language Arts and TIPS Science in the middle grades.  Results showed positive effects on student achievement in these subjects and on parent and student attitudes about homework.  She is co-author of School, Family, and Community Partnerships: Your Handbook for Action, Third Edition (Epstein, et al., Corwin Press, 2009).  She also is coauthor (with Steven Sheldon) of articles on essential elements for developing effective programs of school, family, and community partnerships.
