Partnership School Award Winners - 2009

Eleven schools are winners of 2009 Partnership School Awards from the National Network of Partnership Schools (NNPS) at Johns Hopkins University. They are recognized for excellence in developing and sustaining comprehensive, goal-oriented programs of school, family, and community partnerships. These award winners are working to ensure that all families are welcome at their children’s schools and to implement programs and practices of family and community involvement that will help increase student achievement and other indicators of success in school.

The schools’ Action Teams for Partnerships submitted descriptions of successful family and community involvement activities that helped them meet the challenge of involving more diverse families and to conduct involvement activities that help increase student success in school. The activities are part of the schools’ annual written One-Year Action Plans for Partnerships (also submitted) that guide the development of a goal-linked partnership program, as outlined in the NNPS School, Family, and Community Partnerships: Your Handbook for Action, Third Edition (2009, Corwin Press).

The schools’ award applications showed how leadership, teamwork, written plans, implemented action, funding, evaluation, and support from colleagues affected the quality of their work on partnerships. Some school activities that are summarized below also are in the NNPS collection, Promising Partnership Practices 2009.
