Eleven schools, six districts, one state department of education, and five organizations are winners of the 2009 Partnership Awards from the National Network of Partnership Schools (NNPS) at Johns Hopkins University. They are recognized for excellence in developing and sustaining comprehensive, goal-oriented programs of school, family, and community partnerships. The award winners are working to ensure that all families are welcome at their children’s schools and that programs and practices of family and community involvement help increase student achievement and other indicators of success in school.
All winning programs receive an award plaque and one free registration to a future NNPS professional development conference. NNPS makes up to ten cash prize awards of $500. This year seven schools and one district (see *) earned Special Recognition for their work and progress. (Note: Sites earning a cash prize one year are not eligible the next year, in order to give other award winners an opportunity for Special Recognition. Many “repeat winners” have excellent and sustained partnership programs.)
In 2009, with a grant to NNPS from MetLife Foundation, three award winners (two districts and one organization) (see **) received support for travel and expenses to attend and co-facilitate sessions at the fall 2009 Leadership Development Conference. All winners are featured in the fall issue of Type 2, #27 and are recognized in an honors column in Education Week.
Acknowledgements: NNPS thanks Jeffry Colosino, a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University Writing Seminars, for his assistance with the 2009 award summaries for the website. Many of the activities featured by the award winners are described in detail in Promising Partnership Practices 2009 (Hutchins, et al., 2009).
NNPS gratefully acknowledges a grant from MetLife Foundation that, in part, supports the NNPS Partnership Awards.
